OCT 17, 2023

Hello Central Montana & Beyond!  Mid-October met us with nearly 2,000 head of cattle for our October 17th sale, with over 1,100 calves and 800 cows and bulls!  Calf market was fully steady with last week, with increased local interest as feed inventory in-state continues to look good.  Light calves continue to be finding record highs, with numerous groups of 3-weight steers topping $400/cwt again this week!  Good 4-weight steers continue to be well into the $3 range, as high as $350, with the 5-600# steers coming in the highest volume Tuesday and ranging $265 – $294.50.  We featured a dandy set of replacement heifers from Jerry Ayers at Denton, which brought $1,720/head!  Feeder heifers sold with good buyer interest, 3-weights bringing mostly $315-330 and 4-weights $290-324.  The market on 5-600# heifers got better as the day went on, landing mostly $255-277!  Slaughter cows softened again this week, but only slightly!  Good, strong cows with flesh still brought in the $90’s, cutters were mostly in the $80’s and canners in the $70’s.  Bulls are becoming more scarce in the market as fall continues, thus maintaining a fairly steady mark, with over 70% of the bull offering bringing over $100, all the way to a top of $112.50.

Next week, October 24th is our Red Angus Influence Feeder Special, where we expect to have another big run of both red and black calves and yearlings!  October 31st is our Stock Cow Central October Bred Special & Feeder Special, featuring 300 head of bred heifers from north of Lewistown, bred for early March!  More details on the website.  Thank you for bringing business our way!  ~Kyle Shobe
